El Basilisco is a residency program that brings together artists from the interior of Argentina with others from abroad, to participate in an intensive working period that includes events to facilitate interaction with artist peers from the local scene, students and general public. We offer living and working space in an old 'chorizo' style house in Avellaneda for a period of up to three months, for two or three visual artists, also open to multidisciplinary practice.

The project is coordinated by a group of artists interested in expanding possibilites for cultural exchange on a national, regional and international level. To date, artists participating in the residencies have received support from the Arts Council of England International Fellowships Program, the Triangle Arts Trust, the International Artists' Studio Program in Sweden (IASPIS), Pro Helvetia, the Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art (NIFCA), Fundação Iberé Camargo, Itaú Cultural, Brazilian Embassy in Argentina, Fundación Proa, the Fondo Nacional de las Artes, the Centro Cultural de la Embajada de España de Buenos Aires, and the French Embassy in Argentina; the project has also been endorsed by the Secretaría de Cultura de la Presidencia de la Nación Argentina. We hope to continue to awaken interest and support from institutions that will allow us to continue to include more artists for the future.

Participants are selected by a mixed Selection Committee, comprised of three members in Avellaneda / Buenos Aires, and two from the interior of the country for Argentinean artists, or two from abroad in the case of overseas artists. The artists who coordinate the project are: Esteban Alvarez, Cristina Schiavi and Tamara Stuby.
