Olivia Plender is an artist based in London whose work to date has consisted of comic-book publications, performance and installation. Set in 1960s London, her comic The Masterpiece is about an unrecognized artistic genius trying to negotiate his way to success in the stifling atmosphere of an imaginary bohemia, deliberately evoking the 19th century romantic view of the artist, in particular Emile Zola's novel of the same name, in order to critique the idea of genius.
